Federal Government agrees on disaster resilience partnerships

Commonwealth Attorney-General, Robert McClelland has announced joint implementation plans for disaster resilience initiatives in 2010-11 with three states: Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia. Queensland will receive $5.8 million; South Australia $4 million and Western Australia $3 million.

The implementation plans focus on delivering reductions in community vulnerability to natural hazards, improving community self reliance and mitigation initiatives.

The plans will be funded under the Commonwealth’s $110 million Natural Disaster Resilience Program (NDRP) which assists Government and non government agencies, in conjunction with the private sector, to cooperatively prepare for, and respond to, major natural disasters.
