Protective Security Policy Framework - Documents available for download

Attorney-General Robert McClelland launched the government’s new Protective Security Policy Framework at Security in Government 2010 in June. Documents related to the new policy are now available for download.

The new approach replaces the current 250 page Protective Security Manual with a tiered framework consisting of a range of core standards, policies and guidelines – some to apply across the board, and others to be developed by and apply to specific agencies, taking into account their individual work and function. The current PSM contains some 400 mandatory requirements. The new framework contains just 33.

Under the new systems, an agency either complies or it doesn’t and non-compliance must be reported through the portfolio Minister.

There are a number of documents currently available for download that explain the new structure.

  • Securing Government Business: Protective Security Guidance for Executives, a document intended to assist agencies and organisations providing services to the Commonwealth to meet their security requirements
  • Mandatory Requirements – Summary Table
  • Protective Security Policy Framework V 1.0
