Security 2008 delivers groundbreaking security solutions
More than 150 local and international exhibitors participated in the latest security expo at Security 2008, transforming the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre into a showcase for today’s security innovations.
Visitors came to discover the latest security solutions for Government, business, home and personal protection, and see the most advanced security software and IT security and biometric technologies dominating domestic and international markets.
“As large-scale events like World Youth Day demonstrated, major security measures are playing an increasingly important role in Australia,” Security 2008 Exhibition Manager Peter Higgins said.
“Security 2008 provided a timely and worthwhile opportunity for professionals in the security industry to learn more about the technologies needed to protect crowds and ensure events run smoothly.”
One of the 2008 highlights was the Data Security Village (DSV), a strategic collaboration between Security 2008 and The Storage Networking Industry Association for Australia and New Zealand (SNIA ANZ).
A premier feature at Security 2008, DSV featured services and seminars dedicated to data security, privacy and regulatory compliance, and the latest developments on best standards and practices in the industry.
Security 2008 was also the platform for new product launches and demonstrations.
Amongst them this year was Saab System’s Network-Centric Security (NCS) concept, a new technology developed in Sweden bringing military command and control concepts into civil society.
The NCS is an example of some of the latest technologies dramatically improving situational awareness for security personnel involved in major infrastructure security, such as those at airports, power plants and sea ports.
Another launch to gain attention was Smartlock Digital’s SmartPoint, a high-security biometric safe lock which ensures non-refutable identification through extensive audit capabilities.
Utilising light emitting sensor technology (LES), the SmartLock wowed audiences with its Intrinsic Live Finger Sensing, an intelligent feature which ensures the lock cannot be fooled by silicon replicas.
Security 2008 comprised the exhibition, ASIAL’s renowned industry conference, cocktail party, gala dinner and networking breakfast.
The events enabled industry members to source new products, learn from security leaders and network with colleagues, peers and friends.
This year’s conference delivered an impressive list of speakers including: Ralph Peters, member of Senator John McCain’s foreign-policy and security advisory team for the 2008 presidential campaign; Paul Foreman, Security Advisor to UK Government; Doug Brooks, President, International Peace Operations Association; and Gwynne Dyer, freelance journalist, columnist, author, broadcaster, and lecturer on international affairs for more than 20 years.
