by Biometrics Institute

The Biometrics Institute thas released the results of its first Industry Survey to members and key stakeholders. The survey provides an overview of the current status and future developments of the biometrics industry in Australia and New Zealand.

One of the key findings of the survey is that increased user acceptance is the most significant development during 2009 and looking ahead, remains the key development for the next 5 years.

The Biometrics Institute conducted this survey with its members and other key stakeholders for the first time. It will be repeated on an annual basis and released to members through the Biometrics Institute website - go to http://www.biometricsinstitute.org.

"We were extremely pleased by the number of responses we received", Isabelle Moeller, General Manager of the Biometrics Institute says, "almost one third of the membership participated. The results will be very valuable for members to plan for the years ahead."

Other questions of the survey provide insight into new developments, future applications, potential market restraints as well as what biometric systems are expected to create most of the sales.

The Biometrics Institute is the independent not-for-profit user group with currently over 100 member organisations including government departments, financial services institutions, health service providers and also vendors of biometric products and services.

It is the meeting place for organisations that have an interest in biometrics and would like to share experiences and receive information and training in an informal environment.

It has been established to promote the responsible use of biometrics technologies.
